Fundamental conceptions of contact geometry are expounded in this paper. The brief review of recent achievements in this field is given. For example, the conception of rigidness and fullness of contact structure, which are dominant in the modern 3-dimensional contact geometry, are considered. The connection between the contact structure and the riemannian geometry is regarded.
